Back to School

As our kids head back to school, it’s important to keep them healthy. We feed them a hearty breakfast, pack a healthy lunch, do homework and get them in bed by 9:00 pm, so we can do the same routine tomorrow. We love to see our kids smiling faces and we keep our fingers crossed that our kids stay healthy and illness doesn’t invade our home. However, sometimes our home is the root cause for our children’s illnesses. The quality of indoor air inside our home is important, not only for our family’s comfort but also for their health. Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) has been tied to symptoms like headaches, fatigue, trouble concentrating, and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. Also, some specific diseases, like asthma have been linked to specific air contaminants or indoor environments.

Many factors affect IAQ in our homes. These factors include poor ventilation(lack of outside air), problems controlling temperature, high or low humidity, and leaky ducts. Sometimes, specific contaminants like, mold, cleaning supplies, pesticides, or other airborne chemicals may cause poor IAQ. If you are concerned that some of these factor may be causing unhealthy symptoms in your children, you need to contact an HVAC professional do somediagnostic testing in your home.
